Shuai Zhang knocked out Emma Navarro in the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open
The sixth-seeded Emma Navarro (USA) was knocked out in the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open, losing to Shuai Zhang (China) by 0-2 (4:6, 2:6). The match lasted only 76 minutes and the American tennis player did not offered anything against her Chinese opponent, who was strongly supported by the fans.
Emma Navarro started the match with a break to lead by 2:0, but Shuai Zhang won the next four games in a row with two break to make a turnover in the set. However, the American tennis player equalized to 4:4 and returned the break, but her Chinese opponent took a lead with another break immediately and closed the set on her serve at 6:4.
The second set started equally and both players won their service games. Shuai Zhang needed to save three breakpoint in the fourth game but eventually won it and even broke in the next fifth game to take a lead by 3:2. Since then, she make a strike of three more games against Emma Navarro in a row to win the set at 6:2 and the match.
In the next round, Shuai Zhang will face Greet Minnen (Belgium), who eliminated the 22nd-seeded Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-1 (7:5, 2:6, 6:4).
Diana Shnaider (Russia) also advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Sofia Kenin (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3), as well as Yulia Starodubtseva (Ukraine), who eliminated Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).
