Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori won the US Open mixed doubles title
Italians tennis players Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defeated their American opponents Taylor Townsend and Donald Young by 2-0 (7:6, 7:5) to win the US Open mixed doubles title.
The win gave Sara Errani, a five-time women’s doubles champion, and Andrea Vavassori their first joint title in just their third tournament together. They played in mixed doubles at Wimbledon and at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori recorded the first break in the 11th game of the match and led 6:5 after Townsend sent a backhand out. However, the Americans made a quick re-break and so it came to a tiebreak in which the Italian pair won all the games.
Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori recorded an early break in the second set and took a 3:1 lead, but the Americans managed to level again at 4:4. However, the new champions made another break in the final game and thus congratulated themselves with the title.
Defeat in the New York final ended a long partnership between Taylor Townsend and Donald Young, who had known each other since childhood. Local media claim that the 35-year-old Donald Young will continue his career in the fast-growing form of tennis – pickleball.
