Jannik Sinner: We have some mandatory events but players can still choose there to play

Jannik Sinner shared that the tennis calendar is long, but added that everyone chooses how much and where to play.

“The calendar is quite long these years. But as players we can still choose what to play and what not to play. Obviously we have some mandatory events, yes. But as a player you can still choose. This year’s schedule is very busy, there are many tournaments. You don’t have to play in a tournament. If you don’t want to, you don’t. For example, I didn’t play in some tournaments this year”, said Jannik Sinner. “There are some decisions behind that. In general, yes, the season is quite long, so sometimes it’s not easy”, added he.

The comment comes amid big criticism by top tennis players about the busier ATP calendar and the way organization threats them. Recently Carlos Alcaraz expressed his dissatisfaction with the busy tennis calendar and said that from the outside it looks as if the ATP “want to kill” the players with high physical demands.
