Italy cruised to a 2-0 win over Slovakia to win the Billie Jean King Cup women’s team tennis tournament, the unofficial women’s world team championship, in Malaga.
For the Italian women, this is a total of five trophies from the competition and the first in 11 years, after they remained in second position in 2023.
In the first singles match, Lucia Bronzetti prevailed over Viktoria Hruncakova by 2-0 (6:2, 6:4) in an hour and 23 minutes of play. The rivals exchanged three breaks in the first three games of the match with Lucia Bronzetti led by 3:1, and Viktoria Hruncakova closed her gap. The Italian tennis player, however, won the next three games in a row to win the set at 6:2. Lucia Lucia Bronzetti overcame a 2:4 deficit in the second set to turn around to win 6:4.
Jasmine Paolini prevailed over Rebecca Sramkova in the second match with 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) in just 66 minutes.
After a 2:2 draw in the first set, Jasmine Paolini made a run of four games for 6:2, and in the second part he made a total of three breaks against his Slovakian opponent and rejoiced after 6:1.
