Frances Tiafoe: Obviously it’s not the way I wanted to go forward

Frances Tiafoe US Open semi

American tennis player Frances Tiafoe, who eliminated Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals of the US Open after retiring of the Bulgarian player in the fourth round at 6:3, 6:7(5), 6:3, 4:1, said that he did not want the match to end on such a way.

Grigor Dimitrov took a medical timeout between the third and fourth sets, but continued to experience physical problems and was unable to stay in the match.

“Obviously it’s not the way I wanted to go forward, but I’m happy to reach the semi-finals for the second time here. It was a really high-level match and I certainly didn’t want it to end that way. I like how I played and I felt in the third set”, said Frances Tiafoe, whose next opponent will be compatriot Taylor Fritz, said in his on-court interview.

Two Americans will play in the semifinals of the US Open for the first time since 2005.

“Taylor and I have known each other for such a long time. We have been playing together since we were 14 years old. Playing against him here on the biggest stage makes me very excited. I will do my best, I hope there will be a lot of support”, added Frances Tiafoe. “I will have to be aggressive, he hits the ball very well and moves very well. I have to serve very well, use my speed and do my best”, finished he.
