Stan Wawrinka qualified for the semifinals of the ATP 250 Nordic Open in Stockholm

Stan Wawrinka (Switzerand) qualified for the semifinals of the ATP 250 Nordic Open in Stockholm. The Swiss veteran eliminated the top-seeded Andrey Rublev (Russia) after two tiebreaks and 2-0 (7:6(5), 7:6(5)) in about an hour and 55 minutes of play.

The opening set went without a single break. In the tiebreak, Stan Wawrinka led by 6-2 points and although the next three went to the Russian, the Swiss player closed at 7-5 and won the set. The result in the second tiebreak was repeated – this time, however, the game was more contested, but again the three-time Grand Slam champion emerged victorious.

Stan Wawrinka hit 14 aces against just 2 double faults. He made more unforced errors than Andrey Rublev, but also more winners (33-26) and more unforced errors (36-300. In the semi-final of the tournament, he will face the fourth-seeded Tommy Paul (USA), who knocked out Miomir Kecmanovic (Serbia) after 2-0 (7:6, 6:2).
