Barbora Krejcikova advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Ningbo Open
The fourth-seeded Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Ningbo Open after defeating Yexin Ma (China) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3) in almost two hours of play.
The two-time Grand Slam champion started the match strongly after an early break and took a lead by 2:0. However, the Chinese player returned the break and equalized to 2:2. In the next games there were no breakpoints and the result was running even. In the 11th game of the set, Barbora Krejcikova lost her serve game, giving a chance to her Chinese opponent to serve for the set. However, Yexin Ma failed at her serve giving two breakpoints to the Czech player at 15-40 and lost the game, turning the set into a tiebreak. Yexin Ma had an advance at the beginning of the tiebreak, leading by 4-2 and later by 5-3, but Barbora Krejcikova won the next 4 points in a row to lose it at 7-5 and win the set.
The second set started again strongly for Barbora Krejcikova, who took a lead by 2:0 after an early break. And absolutely as the first set, Yexin Ma rebroke and equalized to 2:2. The Chinese player won her serve game for 3:2, but since then Barbora Krejcikova made a fantastic strike of 4 games in a row and closed the set at 6:3.
In the quarter-finals, Barbora Krejcikova will face Mirra Andreeva (Russia), who eliminated Tamara Korpatsch (Germany) after 2-0 (6:0, 6:4).
Earlier in the day, the sixth-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) also qualified to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Ningbo Open tennis tournament after defeating Katie Boulter (Great Britain) by 2-0 (7:6, 7:5) in 2:27 hours of play.
