Taylor Fritz qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai after defeating David Goffin by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) in an hour and 23 minutes.
Taylor Fritz scored 10 aces, while his opponent committed one double fault. He also made more winners (23-12) and less unforced errors (11-16).
Taylor Fritz started strongly by breaking in the beginning of the first set and taking a lead of 3:0. The experienced David Goffin succeeded to return the break for 3:2, but his American opponent broke again and kept his lead to 4:2. Thus, both players won their serve games by the end of the set, which ended at 6:3.
The second set started equally, but Taylor Fritz again first succeeded to break the serve of his opponent and took a lead of 3:1. The match continue game for game without break, until the ninth game when the American player had a chance to win the match and break his opponent again, but missed three opportunities. However, in the next game, he closed the set at 6:4 and won the match.
In the semi-finals, Taylor Fritz will face the winner of the match between Jakub Mensik and Novak Djokovic. This is the US Open finalist’s first ATP Masters 1000 semi-final on hard since Indian Wells 2022, where he won his first trophy at this level.
