Aryna Sabalenka enjoys playing at the US Open
Last year’s US Open runner-up Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) is in a good position for a strong performance this season as well, having reached the quarter-finals of the championship.
“I’m really enjoying playing here”, said Aryna Sabalenka, whose next opponent will be Olympic champion and New York Grand Slam seventh-seeded Qinwen Zheng (China). “The fans are amazing. I enjoy playing in such a big stadium and feeling all the support. I don’t want to leave here early. I want to stay as long as possible to enjoy this beautiful court. I think that’s why I show persistence here”, added she.
The 23rd-seeded Paula Badosa (Spain), who also reached the quarter-finals and faces a clash with Emma Navarro (USA), admitted she had considered a life outside tennis because of her poor results earlier in the season.
“There were really some moments where I thought about it – similar to the clay season when I was losing quite early in the tournaments. For me, tennis doesn’t make sense if I’m not at the top. I want to play on the big stage. I want to play in the final stages at every tournament, I want to be one of the best tennis players in the world. But at the end of the day, I always believed in myself and believed that I would come back”, commented Paula Badosa.
