Daniil Medvedev qualified for the Round of 16 at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai
The Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev prevailed over Matteo Arnaldi (Italy) by 2-1 (5:7, 6:4, 6:4) in the third round of the powerful tennis tournament ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai with a prize fund of nearly 9 million USD. In the Round of 16 of the tournament, he awaits the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) and Alexandre Muller (France).
In the first set, Daniil Medvedev started with a break, but then lost serve twice and lost the set. He also received a penalty for arguing with the match referee.
However, he succeeded to recover in the next two sets and closed both of them at 6:4, making two breaks in the second set and one break in the third set.
“I felt like I was better in the first set as well. The other two sets were more contested. Even maybe he had the edge, but that’s what tennis is a crazy sport for. You can win when you don’t expect it and you can lose, when you are better”, said Daniil Medvedev after the success.
Daniil Medvedev won the title in Shanghai in 2019.
