Alexander Zverev qualified for the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai
The second-seeded Alexander Zverev (Germany) qualified for the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai hard court tennis tournament with a prize fund of 9 million USD.
Alexander Zverev won easily against Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) in 96 minutes.
After withdrawing from the tournament in Beijing last week due to illness, today the 27-year-old German player won his first victory in Shanghai since 2019. In 2023, he lost to Roman Safiullin (Russia) in straight sets in his first match.
Alexander Zverev, who is No 3 in the ATP World Rankings, will face the winner of the match between Jordan Thompson (Australia) or Tallon Griekspoor (Netherlands) in the third round.
Earlier today, four-time champion Novak Djokovic got off to a tough start, and world’s number one Jannik Sinner (Italy) and Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) also reached the third round.
