Grigor Dimitrov: Sometimes I’m too harsh on myself, but I’m working on it
Grigor Dimitrov shared that over time he learned to show himself the same kindness with which he treats others. Bulgarian tennis player took part in a very interesting video on the ATP Tour, dedicated to the psychological attitude of players in important moments. Apart from Grigor Dimitrov, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune and Felix Auger Aliassime also participated in it.
“Sometimes your mind just flies to another place”, said the world’s number ten. “I’m extremely hard on myself, but I’m working on it. I have learned to show myself the same kindness that I show to others”, added he.
Grigor Dimitrov recalled the dramatic match against Alejandro Tabilo in the second round of this year’s ATP Masters 1000 Miami tournament. The Bulgarian was very close to an early exit after losing the first set and trailing in the tiebreak of the second. However, Grigor Dimitrov won that match and subsequently reached the final, knocking out two players from the Top 5 in the form of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev along the way.
“In my first game in Miami this year, I was two points away from losing. I was behind in the second set tiebreak and during the change of courts I told myself I just had to take a chance. In the end, I made it to the final”, said Grigor Dimitrov.
At the end of the video, the presenter asked the participants what they usually say to themselves when they are one game away from winning.
“You are in control of the situation. Watch the ball and be brave. You can do it. As long as you’re holding a racket, you have a chance”, answered the three-time Grand Slam semi-finalist.
