CAS registered the complaint of WADA in the Jannik Sinner’s case of violation of anti-doping rules
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) registered a complaint of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in the case of world’s number 1 in men’s tennis Jannik Sinner (Italy) for violation of anti-doping rules.
Earlier, WADA announced that it would seek punishment for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) leader for violating anti-doping rules. On September 26, WADA filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAC) against the decision of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) to acquit Jannik Sinner. WADA wants a punishment of one to two years for the Italian.
The ITIA revealed in August that two tests on the Italian showed low levels of Clostebol in March, a few weeks after his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
The tribunal’s finding of “no fault or negligence”, which accepted Jannik Sinner‘s explanation that the substance had accidentally entered his body through a product his physiotherapist used to treat a small wound, was not correct under the applicable rules, it said the statement of the anti-doping agency.
The 23-year-old Jannik Sinner has been at the top of the ATP rankings since June. The Italian has 16 ATP titles. During he season, the tennis player won the Australian Open and the US Open, and in 2023 he won the Davis Cup with the Italian team.
