The 15th-seeded Paula Badosa (Spain) smashed Shuai Zhang (China) in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 China Open. The Spanish tennis player achieved a straight0set victory versus the local opponent by 2-0 (6:1, 7:5) to reach the Top 4 of the hard court tennis tournament with a prize money of almost 9 million USD.

Paula Badosa made three breaks in the first set, winning it convincingly by 6:1. Both players exchange a break in the second set and did not give a single breakpoint more each other to turn the set into a tiebreak, which Paula Badosa won by 7-4 and won the set and the match.

In the other quarter-final of the day, the fourth-seeded Coco Gauff (USA) took a hard three-set victory versus Yulia Starodubtseva (Ukraine). The American tennis player made a comeback to win the match by 2-1 (2:6, 6:2, 6:2).

Yulia Starodubtseva won the first set after making three breaks, but lost the initiative in the next two sets and Coco Gauff did not give a chance to her opponent and won them by 6:2 both.

The winners from today quarter-finals, Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa, formed the first semi-final of the tournament. Head-to-head balance between both players is 3-2 in favor of Paula Badosa. Both players last this season at the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 Rome Open, where Coco Gauff won in three sets.
