David Goffin started with a straight-set win at ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai

David Goffin (Belgium) started his participation at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai with a straight-set victory. The Belgian tennis player, who is 2017 ATP Finals runner-up, defeated James Duckworth (Australia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).

David Goffin converted successfully his single breakpoint and saved the only breakpoint of his opponent to win the first set by 6:4. The Belgian player started the second set powerfully with two breaks and took a lead by 4:1 and both exchanged a break for 5:2. David Goffin served for the match and did not missed his chancel, although missing two match points and needing to save two breakpoint. At the end he closed the second set at 6:2 and won the match.

In the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai, David Goffin will face the 15th-seeded Lorenzo Musetti (Italy).

In the other matches at the start of the tournament, Miomir Kecmanovic (Serbia) eliminated Rinky Hijikata (Australia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) and Jaume Munar (Spain) defeated Hugo Gaston (France) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).

Yoshihito Nishioka (Japan) retired in the first set at 4:2 in his match versus the world-card Yi Zhou (China).
