Carlos Alcaraz is the first finalist at the ATP 500 China Open
Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) qualified for the first time in his career for the final of the ATP 500 China Open tennis tournament in Beijing with a prize fund of 3.7 million USD.
In the semi-finals, the second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz prevailed over the third-seeded and last year’s runner-up
Daniil Medvedev (Russia) with 2-0 (7:5, 6:3). The match lasted an hour and 26 minutes. Carlos Alcaraz has won the last four matches with Medvedev since losing to him in the US Open semi-finals last year.
The first set was extremely even as the two exchanged a total of five breaks. The Russian rallied from a 3:4 to a 5:4 lead, but Carlos Alcaraz won the next three games to take the set 7:5. In the second set, the Spanish tennis player led by 4:2, Daniil Medvedev reduced to 3:4, but Carlos Alcaraz ended the match with another break for 6:3.
In the other semi-final later today, defending champion and leader Jannik Sinner (Italy) will play versus Bu Yunchaokete (China).
