Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils will play in the ATP 500 Japan Open final
The French tennis players Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils qualified for the final of the ATP 500 Japan Open tennis tournament in Tokyo with prize money of 1.82 million USD.
Ugo Humbert defeated Tomas Machac (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:2) after winning the last four games of the match. This saw him reach his third final of the season and seventh of his career, so far unbeaten in an ATP Tour trophy match.
“It feels great. It wasn’t my best match this week but I still managed to win it and I’m very proud of that. I had a hard time in the second set where he didn’t let me find my rhythm but I’m happy , that I kept calm and managed to find a solution. I’m in the seventh final and I hope to continue my winning streak”, commented Ugo Humbert, who guaranteed himself a rise to world’s No 15 in the ATP ranking.
Arthur Fils eliminated the sixth-seeded Holger Rune (Denmark) 2-0 (7:6(8), 7:6(10)) after almost two and a half hours of highly contested tennis. The 20-year-old Arthur Fils fended off a set point at 6-7 points in the first tiebreak and squandered a 6-3 lead in the second and saved two more set points at 6-7 and 7-8 to reach the final success at his sixth opportunity.
Ugo Humbert has four wins in four matches against his compatriot, two of which have come this season. Arthur Fils has two titles in his career, one in Hamburg in July.
