Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP 500 China Open
Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP 500 China Open hard court tennis tournament in Beijing with a prize pool of 3.72 million USD.
Carlos Alcaraz eliminated the seventh-seeded Karen Khachanov (Russia) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2). The Spanish tennis player was better in the points won on first serve and converted 4 of his 12 breakpoints in the match, against only 1 of 2 breakpoints converted by Karen Khachanov.
With the victory, Carlos Alcaraz will overtake Alexander Zverev (Germany) for second place in the men’s world rankings. Zverev did not participate in Beijing as he is recovering from illness.
Carlos Alcaraz will face the third-seeded Daniil Medvedev (Russia) in the semi-finals, after the Russian tennis player eliminated Flavio Cobolli (Italy) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:4). Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev head-to-head balance is 5-2 in favor of the Spanish tennis player. Last time, both players met at Wimbledon semi-finals, when the Spanish player won by 3-1 (6:7, 6:3, 6:4, 6:4).
