Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the fourth round of the WTA 1000 China Open
The top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) qualified for the fourth round of the WTA 1000 China Open tennis tournament in Beijing.
In a match of the third round, Aryna Sabalenka overcame Ashlyn Krueger (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) in just 76 minutes of play. The tennis player from Belarus achieved her 14th consecutive victory. The three-time Grand Slam champion began her streak in Cincinnati in August and continued with a run at the US Open earlier this month. Aryna Sabalenka also won the Australian Open at the beginning of the year.
Against Ashlyn Krueger, Aryna Sabalenka scored five of her seven chances for a break.
Her next opponent will be another American, 18th-seeded Madison Keys, and Aryna Sabalenka hopes to equal her career-best 15-match winning streak recorded in 2020/2021.
Madison Keys prevailed over Beatriz Haddad Maia by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in a match that lasted an hour and 27 minutes.
The former world’s number one Naomi Osaka (Japan) continued her positive start under new coach Patrick Mouratoglou with a 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) win over Katie Volynets (USA) to reach a fourth-round match versus fourth-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA). This will be the first match between the two Grand Slam champions in more than two years, and so far the balance between them is 2-2.
Tenth-seeded Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) was leading 1-1 (3:6, 6:3, 3:1) against Peyton Stearns (USA) before the American retired from the match due to injury. Anna Kalinskaya will face Ukrainian qualifier Yulia Starodubtsewa.
Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) eliminated Jaqueline Cristian in the third round after a 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) success, and her next opponent will be Cristina Bucsa (Spain), who eliminated the 24th-seeded Elise Mertens (belgium) after -1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:2).
The third-seeded Jasmine Paolini (Italy) was knocked out in the third round of the tournament, after losing to the 31st-ranked Magda Linette (Poland) by 0-2 (4:6, 0:6).
