Paula Badosa eliminated Viktoriya Tomova to reach the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 China Open
Paula Badosa (Spain) eliminated Viktoriya Tomova (Bulgaria) from the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open and advanced to the Round of 16 to the prestigious tournament. The 15th-seeded Spanish tennis player cruised to victory by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) in less than an hour and half.
Viktoriya Tomova finished the match without a single ace and with 2 double faults, as she managed to win 52% of the points on her first serve but only 37% on her second serve. Paula Badosa showed much better results on serve, winning 63% of her second serve points and 70% of her first serve points, which made the difference.
The Spanish tennis recorded two breaks in the first set against only one for her Bulgarian opponent, as well as two more breaks in the second set. This was enough for her to win the match and advance in the tournament. In the third round she will face Rebecca Sramkova (Slovakia), who made a fantastic comeback to win her match versus 22nd-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia) by 2-1 (5:7, 6:4, 6:3).
Rebecca Sramkova has a wonderful season so far, just last week winning her first WTA title at the WTA 250 Thailand Open, but now will need to face the strong opponent in the face of Paula Badosa.
Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) also advanced ahead in the tournament after a comeback against Hailey Baptiste (USA) by 2-1 (3:6, 7:6, 7:6).
Earlier in the day, Veronika Kudermetova eliminated Wang Xinyu (China) after 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 7:5) and Katie Boulter (Great Britain) defeated Taylor Townsend (USA) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).
