Can Grigor Dimitrov starts coaching?
Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov showed enviable coaching skills during his participation in the Laver Cup.
He effectively took on the role of second captain of Team Europe, constantly supporting his teammates and giving them advice that, at least from the sidelines, seemed very accurate. Towards the end of the tournament, the big stars of the rank of Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev began to inquire about the Bulgarian themselves.
In the end, Team Europe prevailed over Team World with a dramatic turnaround that formed the aggregate score to 13:11. Grigor Dimitrov’s actions did not go unnoticed by the journalists, who surprised the Bulgarian with an unexpected question during the championship press conference. He was asked if he would take the coaching role on the staff of his close friend Hubert Hurkacz, who recently announced that after 5 years of working together, he is parting ways with American specialist Craig Boynton. Daniil Medvedev overtook Grigor Dimitrov, exclaiming that this was the most random question he had ever heard.
“I’m willing to give him advice if he needs me, but I’m not sure if I’ll be that good of a coach. I just follow my gut and say what I see from the sidelines. We’re largely driven by excitement and adrenaline here. Everyone he sees different things from us and that’s the fun part that helps us so much. We were constantly exchanging ideas and I think everyone was very receptive to the information he was getting from the other players. Thank you guys”, said Grigor Dimitrov.
