Grigor Dimitrov sidelined at the third day of Laver Cup due to injury
Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov was not among the selected players for the decisive third day of the prestigious Laver Cup. Team Europe vice-captain Thomas Enqvist revealed that Grigor Dimitrov’s physical condition had prevented the Bulgarian from taking part in the opening doubles match, in which he would have partnered Carlos Alcaraz.
“We had big plans for Grigor. We believed we could use him in the final doubles match, but unfortunately, his injury made him an impossible choice for today”, shared Thomas Enqvist during an on-court interview. “However, we have an incredibly strong squad and we believe the rest of the players can do whatever it takes to turn the tide and win the tournament”, added he.
Grigor Dimitrov, who impressed with his performance in the opening days of the tournament, had been scheduled to take part in a doubles match with Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, but his condition apparently prevented Europe’s captains from relying on him for the final day.
This is a big blow for the European team, who needed a strong support to fight for the victory. At the same time, with Grigor Dimitrov being injured, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud were selected as a pair, with both expected to do their best to compensate for the Bulgarian’s absence.
Thomas Enqvist added: “Tennis is a sport where we often have to deal with unexpected circumstances. Fortunately, we have a squad of players who can adapt to the situation and move forward”.
