Novak Djokovic leads Serbia to victory over Greece in Davis Cup

Novak Djokovic and Hamad Medjedovic

Olympic champion Novak Djokovic led Serbia to a 3-1 win over Greece in a World Group I match at the Davis Cup, an unofficial men’s team tennis championship.

Novak Djokovic and Hamad Medjedovic won the decisive doubles match by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:3) against Aristotelis Thanos and Petros Tsitsipas in Belgrade. The Serb rattled off 13 aces and won 75% of his first-serve points en route to closing out the match after two hours and 10 minutes.

Former champion Serbia took a 2-0 lead after singles wins by Novak Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday. After that, the hosts needed just one win to progress.

Serbia now continue to qualify for the 2025 Davis Cup for a chance to return to the group stage. The team won the trophy in 2010, beating France by 3-2 in the final.

Hamad Medjedovic was making just his second Davis Cup appearance after his three-set win against Viktor Durasovic of Norway last year.

Former world’s number one Novak Djokovic is looking to regain his form ahead of next month’s ATP Finals.
