Alex de Minaur is out of the Team Australia for Davis Cup due to a thigh injury
Alex de Minaur has dropped out of Australia’s national team for the upcoming Davis Cup men’s team tennis tournament with a thigh injury. He reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, where he lost in three sets to Jack Draper (Great Britain).
The squad was announced today by Australian team coach Lleyton Hewitt. The 2003 champions face France in Valencia this week.
“Alex de Minaur has played very well in the team tournament for the last three or four years. However, he has been nursing an injury for some time and has not been at his best since Wimbledon. Alex wants to play, but we cannot risk his health. We have no choice”, said Lleyton Hewitt.
The two-time Grand Slam winner is still confident his team will overcome France without Alex de Minaur. At the US Open, Alexei Popyrin defeated the legendary Novak Djokovic, and Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won the men’s doubles tournament.
“We believe in our capabilities. These boys have been working hard all year, not just for their upcoming matches. I’m sure they go into the matches with France in good confidence”, added he.
