Taylor Fritz will be less tense in the US Open final
Taylor Fritz, who will play for the US Open title on Sunday, said he expected the tension in his final match with Jannik Sinner to be less than that of his semi-final clash with compatriot Frances Tiafoe.
Taylor Fritz became the first American to reach a Grand Slam title match in 15 years after outplaying Frances Tiafoe in a five-set drama on Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. If he can also defeat the world’s number one Jannik Sinner on Sunday, he will become the first American in 21 years to become an US Open champion.
“I’ve always liked playing against Jannik Sinner. To be honest, I don’t expect the pressure on me to be any greater than it was today. I don’t believe the situation can get any more stressful. So on Sunday I expect to go out on the court calm, to play well and win”, said the American, who is ranked No 12 in the world. “A lot of people said I was the favorite against Tiafoe, but I didn’t want to look at it that way. Having six wins in our first seven matches doesn’t mean anything in a situation like this. He played incredible tennis during the whole tournament”, added Taylor Fritz.
Taylor Fritz has won eight ATP Tour singles titles, including a ATP 1000 Masters title in Indian Wells Open.
