Lyudmyla Kichenok had to postpone her wedding because she won the US Open women’s doubles title
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmyla Kichenok, who won the women’s doubles title at the US Open 2024, partnering with Jelena Ostapenko, said she had to postpone her wedding because she won the US Open.
On Friday, the 32-year-old Lyudmyla Kichenok shared the title with Latvia’s tennis player Jelena Ostapenko after defeating Kristina Mladenovic (France) and Zhang Shuai (China) in straight sets in the final.
“I also want to thank my fiance, who was supposed to be my husband. He and I were supposed to get married on Wednesday, but it didn’t happen. We had arranged a date for the celebration, but it fell through because I had to play then in the semifinals”, said Lyudmyla Kichenok.
The Ukrainian is engaged to her compatriot Stanislav Khmarskiy, who is Jelena Ostapenko’s coach.
“I think this is a good reason to postpone a wedding. I think that now with the trophy you can go and get married in peace. It will be really great”, said Jelena Ostapenko herself on the occasion of the upcoming wedding of her friends.
