Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the US Open final
World’s number two Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) reached a second consecutive US Open final, defeating Emma Navarro (USA) to move within one win of her third Grand Slam title.
Two-time Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka triumphed over the 13th-seeded American player by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6) and will face another US tennis player, Jessica Pegula, in Saturday’s final.
Aryna Sabalenka, who lost to American Cori Coco Gauff last year in New York, used her strength to win the first set. Although the American was able to re-break after an early break, the 26-year-old Belarusian broke again in the sixth game and then took the opening set 6:3 with 16 winners, twice as many as Emma Navarro.
Aryna Sabalenka took a 3:2 lead with a break in the second set, and Emma Navarro had to save more break points to avoid a 2:5. That breathed new life into the American, who in turn broke Aryna Sabalenka as her rival served for the match, leveling at 5:5. She even enjoyed a mini-break in the tiebreak before Aryna Sabalenka turned the score over and eventually cruised to victory.
Thus, the Belarusian will play Jessica Pegula in the final of the US Open, which is on Saturday.
