Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev to reach the semi-finals of the US Open 2024

Jannik Sinner US Open win

The world’s number one Jannik Sinner (Italy) continues attacking the title at the final Grand Slam tournament of the year – the US Open. The Italian tennis player defeated Daniil Medvedev by 3-1 (6:2, 1:6, 6:1, 6:4) in their clash in the quarter-finals. The match lasted 2 hours and 41 minutes, and with this success Jannik Sinner reached this phase of “Flushing Meadows” for the first time in his career.

The first set was completely under Jannik Sinner’s control. He stood significantly better on the court and with two breaks decided things in his favor for 6:2.

Surprisingly, however, everything turned upside down in the second set. Daniil Medvedev woke up and won the first five games, making two breaks. Jannik Sinner managed to record a game, but immediately after that the Russian finished his job and closed the set at 6:1.

And again another twist followed in the course of the match in the third set. Jannik Sinner regained the initiative and dictated what was happening on the court, and could even win the set to zero, but Daniil Medvedev saved three set points in the sixth game, enough to save his honor. But the set was decidedly for Jannik Sinner with 6:1.

The fourth set was the most contested. There, the forces were equal at the beginning and after the first six games the score was 3:3. The seventh game proved to be decisive, in which Jannik Sinner managed to break his opponent’s serve and then took his own serve to lead 5:3. He had match point in the next game, but Daniil Medvedev survived. However, the Russian’s joy was short-lived, as in his next service game, the worlds’ number one decided everything to form the final 6:4 in his favor, with which he also put a point in the match.

Thus, the US Open is sure to have a new champion as none of the players who have reached this stage have won the tournament so far. Jannik Sinner will face Jack Draper, while at the other semi-final there will be all_American clash between Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz.
