Iga Swiatek after the loss to Jessica Pegula: I just made too many mistakes
Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek said she was unable to find a solution to her serve problems in her loss to American Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the US Open. The world number one won just over half of her points on first serve and made 41 unforced errors.
“When I was 0:4 down in the first set, I tried to do the same job as usual”, said the 2022 champion, who had won six of her previous nine matches against Pegula. “I really didn’t understand why my serve wasn’t working. It was hard for me to find a proper solution for it. I just made too many mistakes”, admitted Iga Swiatek.
The five-time Grand Slam winner named Jessica Pegula a worthy winner.
Iga Swiatek, who won her third consecutive French Open title in June before taking bronze at the Paris Olympics last month, said she had no intention of taking a break after the final Grand Slam of the year.
“I stick to the schedule, I only talk about the mandatory tournaments. I’m ready to play until November, unless I get injured”, added Iga Swiatek.
