Jack Draper smashed Alex de Minaur to reach the semi-finals of the US Open 2024
Jack Draper (Great Britain) continues his stellar run at this year’s US Open. The British tennis player defeated Alex de Minaur (Australia) by 3-0 (6:3, 7:5, 6:2) in their quarter-final clash in New York to make his first career Grand Slam semi-final.
Right from the beginning of the match, Jack Draper started more steadily and twice broke his opponent’s serve, although in between he also conceded a break. However, the British tennis player controlled what was happening on the court and could have closed the set as early as the eighth game when he missed 4 set points, but still did his job in his service game and reached 6:3 in his favor.
And in the second set, Jack Draper was again the first to break for 2:1, but this time he allowed the break to be returned for 4:4. However, he continued to be more focused in the important moments and thus reached a second break for 6:5, and finally closed out the set on his serve for 7:5.
There was almost no intrigue in the third set. Jack Draper twice broke his opponent and with 6:2 closed the set and the match in his favor.
Thus, the 22-year-old tennis player became the first Briton since 2012 to reach the semi-finals of the US Open. Even more impressive is that he reached this stage without losing a set. It is now certain that Jack Draper will debut in the Top 20 of the rankings, and his next opponent will be the top-seeded an world’s number one Jannik Sinner (Italy)
