Richard Gasquet will retire from tennis after French Open 2025

Richard Gasquet end tennis career

Former world’s number seven Richard Gasquet will retire from tennis after next year’s French Open, ending his 22-year career.

The 38-year-old French tennis veteran is a two-time Wimbledon semifinalist and a one-time US Open semifinalist. His best performance at Roland Garros was in 2016 when he reached the quarterfinals. Richard Gasquet has won 16 ATP Tour titles, most recently in Oakland last year.

“I think this is the best moment for me to do it”, said Richard Gasquet. “This is the best place to end my career. When you end something, it’s always difficult, all the former great players have always told me that it’s not easy to announce. You never know when, how, where”, added he.

Richard Gasquet is also fourth among active players with over 600 career match wins. His best performance in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 singles tournaments was being the runner-up in Hamburg in 2005 and Toronto in 2006 and 2012. He won the mixed doubles title at the 2004 French Open, partnering with Tatiana Golovin. He also won the men’s doubles Olympic bronze medal in 2012 with his doubles partner Julien Benneteau. Gasquet is best known for his elegant groundstrokes and his one-handed backhand.
