Ons Jabeur ends her season due to a shoulder injury
Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) will miss the rest of the women’s season due to a shoulder injury. The three-time Grand Slam runner-up has physical problems this year, slipping to No 22 in the world rankings. Ons Jabeur missed the recently concluded US Open due to injury and has not played an official match since her tough loss to Naomi Osaka in Toronto in early August.
“This year has been extremely difficult for me and as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the adventure. Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical staff and I have taken the difficult decision to end my Tour appearances for the rest of the season”, she said on social media.
The 30-year-old tennis player added that she will be back on court for the start of the next campaign in Australia.
Ons Jabeur has a career-high ranking by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) of world No 2. She is the current Tunisian number one, and the highest-ranked African and Arab tennis player in WTA and ATP rankings history. She has won five singles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as eleven singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Circuit. Ons Jabeur was the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023 and at the US Open in 2022, becoming the first African and Arab woman to contest a major singles final.
