Grigor Dimitrov replaces Rafael Nadal in the Laver Cup
Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov replaces Rafael Nadal in the Laver Cup team tournament, the organizers announced. The world’s number 10 Bulgarian player will play for the European team alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
For Grigor Dimitrov, 33, this is a return to the tournament after a 5-year break. he made his Laver Cup debut in 2018, when he played two matches. In singles, he defeated Frances Tiafoe by 2-0 (6:1, 6:4), and in doubles Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin were defeated by Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock by 0-2 (3:6, 4:6). Thus, the Bulgarian player helped the selection of Europe to win the trophy by 13-8.
In this year’s Laver Cup, the World Team includes Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, Alejandro Tabilo, Francisco Cerundolo and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
