American tennis talent Emma Navarro has withdrawn from the WTA 500 Ningbo Open hard court tennis tournament due to an injury.

Emma Navarro, 23, who reached the semi-finals of the US Open just over a month ago, was third-seeded and was due to start directly in the second round, where she was scheduled to face the winner of the match between Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) and Magda Linette (Poland).

However, her withdrawal means that the names of the eight participants in the WTA Finals, which will be held in Riyadh between November 2 and 9, have also been clarified. These are the top seven in the rankings – Iga Swiatek (Poland), Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), Coco Gauff (USA), Jasmine Paolini (Italy), Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan), Jessica Pegula (USA) and Qinwen Zheng (China). Also the Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) enters with a “wild card”.

Emma Navarro is likely to be first reserve for the tournament in Riyadh as long as she recovers in the next two weeks. With American player Danielle Collins, the No 9 in the WTA ranking in 2024, being injured, a likely second reserve will be one between Daria Kasatkina (Russia) and Spain’s Paula Badosa (Spain).

The WTA Finals, which will be held for the 53rd time, have a prize pool of just over 15 million USD.
