Serious progress for American tennis

Former world’s number one Jimmy Connors has heaped praise on the American tennis players for their performance at the US Open. American tennis fans were delighted as Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe went head-to-head battle for a spot in the US Open final.

Now, Jimmy Connors, who has won the five titles in New York, did not spare the kind words for his compatriots and wished for even greater successes.

“I think all of us who love tennis needed something like this eventually. We’ve been waiting a long time for an American to break out in their home major and thankfully it happened in 2024. I think they all deserve respect, but Fritz and Tiafoe really showed that they belong among the greats in our sport. They both had great wins before they met in the semi-finals, and the match between them was just a real treat for me. Many have argued that it was because of Alcaraz’s exit that things turned out this way for the Americans, but even if that is true, the Spaniard has only himself to blame for leaving the race early. The others made great use of the chance they got, and Taylor Fritz reaching the trophy match is a real success for American tennis”, said Jimmy Connors. “After everything I saw during this edition of the tournament, I am definitely optimistic about the future, and many people forget the fact that back in the third round, the match between Tiafoe and Ben Shelton was perhaps the match of the tournament. I really hope the best is yet to come”, added the eight-time Slam champion.
