Jannik Sinner: A new era of champions is coming, which is “good for the sport”
World number one and US Open champion Jannik Sinner (Italy) believes the arrival of a new era of champions is “good for the sport”.
In New York, Jannik Sinner won his second Grand Slam title of the year, and with Carlos Alcaraz triumphing at the French Open and Wimbledon, for the first time in 22 years none of the big three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic does not take a Slam trophy.
“It’s definitely a bit different. It’s something new, but it’s also nice to see – it’s nice to see new champions and new rivalries. I feel it’s good for the sport to have new champions”, commented Jannik Sinner, who, however, was adamant that the hard work was just beginning. “There are always and will continue to be tennis players who will make me a better player because there will be times when they beat me. Then you try to find a way to win against specific opponents. It makes me realize that work is never it doesn’t stop”, added he.
“It’s about continuous work. If you want to be a better tennis player, you always have to work and keep doing your daily duties, accepting the difficult moments on the court”, said also Jannik Sinner.
New York finalist Taylor Fritz thinks the situation in men’s tennis is probably a bit more open now.
“I don’t think you have to be amazing to go far in tournaments and be a contender for the trophy”, said Taylor Fritz. “It’s just different. But to beat the top players, you have to show your best”, added he.
