More than a million fans attended the US Open 2024
More than a million fans passed through the doors of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York over three weeks during qualifying and the main draw of the US Open, the most ever for the Grand Slam tournament, reports the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
“The record 1,048,669 fans represent an 8% increase on 2023 and include a record 832,640 attendances over the two weeks of main draw matches”, adds the statement of the United States Tennis Association.
The tournament came to an end yesterday after world number one Jannik Sinner (Italy) defeated 12th-ranked American Taylor Fritz (USA) in the men’s final.
The world’s number two Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) outlasted sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) on Saturday to win the women’s title.
The Australian tennis players Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won the men’s doubles title, while Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) and Lyudmyla Kichenok (Ukraine) won the women’s doubles final.
