Aryna Sabalenka: I am strong enough to withstand the pressure

Newly crowned US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka shared that the tough lessons of previous years helped her win over Jessica Pegula in the US Open final.

The tennis player from Belarus defeated home representative Jessica Pegula by 7-5, 7-5 to triumph in New York for the first time in her career.

“I had a lot of hard lessons in this tournament, a lot of hard ones, especially in last year’s final. I kept telling myself today that this is the final of the US Open, that she will fight very hard and it will not be easy for me. In these difficult moments, I tried to remind myself that I have gone through a lot of difficulties and I am strong enough to withstand the pressure”, commented Aryna Sabalenka after the success. “After I lost my father, I made it my goal to write our family name in tennis history. Seeing my name on this trophy makes me feel very proud. I am proud that my family never gave up on my dream and did everything in their power to help me. It’s hard for me to describe the emotions, I’m crying, I’m laughing, I feel all these feelings at the same time”, added Aryna Sabalenka, who already has three Grand Slam titles.
