Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won the US Open 2024 men’s doubles title
Australian tennis players Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won the US Open 2024 men’s doubles title. In the final, seventh-seeded Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson prevailed over tenth-seeded Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz from Germany after 2-0 (6:4, 7:6(4)). The match lasted an hour and 36 minutes.
The Australians, Wimbledon finalists earlier this year, broke for 3:2 in the first set, then took a 4:2 lead and held their lead until a successful 6:4.
The second set started in a similar fashion, with Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson breaking again in the fifth game and they again pulled ahead 4:2. At 5:3, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, however, saved two match points for their opponents and subsequently made a break to tie the game at 5:5.
The German tennis players led 6:5 and sent the set to a tiebreak in which they took a 3-1 point lead, but the Australians held on for the victory with 7-4 points.
For Max Purcell, the trophy is the second in the Grand Slam tournaments. He has a doubles title from Wimbledon in 2022, while Jordan Thompson’s best achievement so far has been the Wimbledon final this season.
